The meeting was called to order at 7:04
p.m. by Secretary Barbara Giroux, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. A
moment of silence followed for those active men and women, veterans and all
who have died in service for our country. There were 12 in attendance. Kim
Goulette, Vice President, presided at the meeting as President Rosalie
Dupont was away.
Secretary Barbara Giroux read the Minutes
of the April meeting. Kim Goulette made a motion to accept as read,
seconded by Don Leger.
Treasurer, Janet Sanuita, distributed
copies of the Hampton Ponds Budget – April 2007 with total cash assets
totaling $12,820.28. Income for the month which includes Membership dues
and rentals totaled $2,485.00. Barbara Giroux made a motion to accept as
distributed, seconded by Nancy Pasquini.
There were no new members present.
Emma Maloney reminded everyone of the
Pancake Breakfast this Saturday, May 12th at the HPA Hall. Fran
and Emma will arrive at 5:00 a.m. to have everything ready for 7:00 a.m.
Emma has all her family members working as well. Emma received a lot of
nice donations from Don Leger, Big Y, Pilgrim Candle, Maple Syrup donation,
massage certificate….also she was given a $50.00 donation as well. This has
been advertised in the Westfield Evening News and Pennysaver, and Don Leger
has posted it on our website as well. Emma brought up the question about
how the profit will be split for the Upcoming Tag Sale on May 28th, and
after discussion, Barbara Giroux made a motion to split 50/50 between the
Playground and Weed Eradication/Clean Lakes, seconded by Don Leger. A
discussion followed about what the City of Westfield’s plans were as far as
getting involved dollar-wise with the Playground. Our understanding is that
once we reach $2,000 in an account, the City will match it. Emma is working
with the City of Westfield on this.
Website Update – Don Leger did an AWESOME
job updating the site, posting a BEAUTIFUL PHOTO, listing current events,
minutes, etc. Please get in touch with Don if you have events, news, etc.
that you’d like posted to the site.
Word of Grace Church Request – a lengthy
discussion followed, with the end result being that Kim will call Paul
Bluemer (as Paul was not in attendance) to have him set up a Director’s
Meeting to discuss. Tabled until next meeting.
Kim did a GREAT JOB on the Hampton Ponds
Newsletter and distributed copies to everyone. They will be left at local
businesses, and Kim will mail with membership cards as well. Kim reported
that we have 58 paid up members to date, and she has prepared and
distributed a new membership list. Don Leger is also going to tie the phone
numbers in with an automated recording system so we can remind our local
community of dinners, etc. Kim is also bringing applications for membership
to our Pancake breakfast, and noted that we should have these at all
functions to encourage new members participation. Our next newsletter will
be around August – September, BUT Kim will do a 4th of July
Newsletter for distribution on the day at our Parade.
Weed Eradication Program is progressing
quite well, thanks to all the efforts of Don Leger. $1,800 will be needed
soon…..the end of May there will be an inspection, then in July and August
as well, then a report will be issued. Also, they are checking the water
chestnuts as well. Don brought up concern about the raising of monies
needed for this project, a long discussion followed re: water shed program
with the waterfront owners and it was decided to tread water for now; this
would be an option and we can see how the dollars flow in. Nancy Pasquini
suggested that 3 people attend the symposium in Lee and this would be a very
good information meeting. Last year, Don Leger, Nancy Pasquini and Ed
Rubner attended. Also, the insurance issue was again discussed at length.
It will be quite expensive to obtain insurance riders for each event, Janet
got a quote of $300.00 for a one day event, but she is going to check into
it further to see if we could get 1 rider that combines all our events and
will report back to us. Also, it was discussed in the future that we might
be able to obtain sponsors to pay for this insurance. Kim is going to ask
Rosalie to have her brother that is a lawyer check into the possibility of a
legal document with a liability waiver for our events and see if this would
be legally ok for us to do. We do have Directors & Officers insurance
effective 4/1/2007.
Pete Sanuita brought up a concern that
Larry at the State Parks said paving will begin soon and the road will be
shut down for a period of time. Nancy Pasquini suggested that we obtain
Terry Smith’s number in Worcester and get information from him with
reference to this subject. Pete indicated that it would not interfere with
any of our events that we have scheduled at the moment.
Regarding Bank Account Name Change – Nancy
Pasquini said that Paul Bluemer wants to be removed from the checking
signing list. Therefore, we need to get another signer. The Board of
Directors will discuss this at their next meeting.
Nancy Pasquini asked Pete Sanuita to come
over to the Boat House and pick out a boat for the boat raffle. We
discussed pricing of the raffle tickets, and Barbara Giroux
made a motion to leave ticket prices at $20.00,
seconded by Don Leger, and bearing in mind that the tickets will be held to
a limited number with the drawing to be at the Fishing Derby.
It was voted unanimously to give a $50.00
donation to the American Cancer Society in memory of Jim Haley’s wife,
Carol…..Jim has been a great member and such a help to the Association with
the many years of organizing our 4th of July parade, and so sorry
for his loss. A card was passed around and this gift with be given along
with other donations given by Camp Jahn members. Janet Sanuita is handling
this for the HPA.
4th of July Parade….Parade
Marshall was discussed and voted unanimously for Rosalie Dupont to ask Nancy
Pasquini and Joe Frankowski to honor us with their acceptance to be our
Parade Marshalls this year. Doris has prepared the posters, and will get
the donuts. Joe Giroux offered to organize the drinks downstairs and handle
the day of the parade, along with Joe Frankowski’s help. Jim Haley had told
Barbara Giroux that he’d be doing the parade organizing awhile back, but due
to the death of his wife, we will wait a little while and re-confirm.
Kim reported that Doris Rivard has prepared
the scholarship letters and they are all set – thank you Doris!
Janet Sanuita mentioned that she receives a
lot of donation mail, we decided not to do any donations at the moment,
unless she is told of certain donations that have been done in the past.
Nancy Pasquini can best answer this question.
Pete Sanuita brought up the fact that
sometimes we miss the whole concept of this organization. It’s not just
Clean Lakes that we are donating to, it’s everything in our community, i.e.,
maintenance of our building, playground, and anything that benefits our
community….and we should all keep this in mind as we all work together.
Angela Belisle made a motion to adjourn the
meeting at 8:37 p.m., seconded by Pete Sanuita.
Respectfully Submitted,
Barbara Giroux
Secretary
