MINUTES - HAMPTON PONDS ASSOCIATION
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2008
The meeting was
called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Rosalie Dupont, followed
by the Pledge of Allegiance. A moment of silence followed for all
those active service men and women, veterans and all others that
died in service to our country. There were 16 in attendance.
Board Member
Doris Rivard read the Minutes of the January meeting. Nelson Dionne
made a motion to accept the minutes as read, seconded by Paul
Bleumer, all were in favor.
Treasurer Janet
Sanuita reported that we have a total of $12,489.05 cash on hand,
income for the month of January was $1,870.23, and expenses totaled
$2,528.42 for January. Paul Bluemer questioned the difference in
the total for the Scholarship account, and Janet answered that it
was due to interest earned. Nelson Dionne made a motion that the
treasurer’s report be accepted as read, seconded by Paul Bluemer,
all were in favor.
Janet Sanuita
reported that the ice fishing derby generated $2,503.00 for the
Clean Lakes Fund, and that they had their best turnout ever with 250
participants. Pete Sanuita stated that the success of the derby is
mostly due to the fact that Waste Management Corp made a very
generous donation of $500.00 prize money. Also noted was that the
hot dogs, rolls, Chili and hot chocolate were also donated. Pete
will give names to Barbara to send Thank You cards. The 50/50
Raffle was very successful also with a prize of $294.00. Of course
we must give credit to Mother Nature for providing the perfect
weather Kim Paquette suggested that for next year we try to get
some ice fishing related items, such as tents, for a separate
raffle.
Patsy Bluemer
suggested that a thank you letter from the president of HPA be sent
to Waste Management for their recent support of the Ice Fishing
Derby, along with a plaque as a form of thanks. Pete and Janet
Sanuita will provide the name for the Waste Management plaque. Art
Paquette has a contact at Dinn Bros. Trophy Co., and will research
trying to get some trophies donated for future events.
Mike Potenza
asked why we could not get some funding to improve the Boat Launch
when we are applying for lake money Isn’t it related to clean lakes
and fishing?
Janet Sanuita
reported that the Roast Pork dinner made $223.00 after expenses.
Janet Sanuita
reported that the Victualer’s license form and a late penalty was
paid and mailed. We did receive it in time for the Roast Pork
dinner.
Rosalie Dupont
read an email from Emma Potter with information on the status of the
Playground project. It has been verified that the funds will come
from the Parks and Recreation Department. Emma is working closely
with Ann Heiser at city hall and it appears that the purchase of the
new playground equipment will occur soon, followed in June by some
clearing and clean up at the park, then hopefully installation will
take place in July.
Kim Paquette
discussed the upcoming membership drive mailing. Doris Rivard suggested
that we have applications at our upcoming Corned Beef dinner on March 1st
Janet Sanuita said that she would talk to people about joining rather
than simply having the applications just sitting on a table hoping
someone would be interested. Rosalie Dupont and Kim Paquette will be
working together on this project. President Rosalie Dupont will compose
a letter to accompany the member application. The letter will include
our accomplishments as an organization, and our current goals. Nelson
Dionne suggested that we as members take every opportunity to mention
the HPA to friends and neighbors.
Doris Rivard asked
if we could discuss the amount to be charged for the upcoming Corned
Beef dinner. Last year we charged $10.00 for adults and $3.00 for
children 12 and under.
Tony Borgotti
suggested we raise it to $12.00 for adults and $4.00 for children 12 and
under. Nelson Dionne made a motion that we accept the $12.00 and $4.00
amounts, seconded by Don Leger, all were in favor.
Member Don Leger
reported that weed eradication project is still in the works, and this
information was included in the recent newsletter. Mike Potenza asked
how exactly this funding works, and why could we not get more money?
Nancy Pasquini explained that it is joint funding from HPA, City, and
State. Don Leger also added that the product allowed to be used only
kills the plant and not the roots, thus making this an ongoing project.
Paul Bluemer stated that funding for Horse Pond may not take place
because there is no public access to the water. We will not bring this
up to the city council and hope we can get the pond treated along with
Pequot Pond. Don Leger also stated that the website has been updated,
including photos of the recent Ice Fishing Derby.
Member Nelson
Dionne informed us of his most recent contact with City Council member
Charlie Medeiros regarding additional funding for clean lakes. Charlie
is to be bringing our request to the city council at the next meeting to
be held later this week. He is trying to get us funding for five years,
but the amount we may receive has not yet been determined.
President Rosalie
Dupont asked Treasurer Janet Sanuita for an update on the status of
State Tax Form 3 ABC. Janet said she is prepared to complete the form
and have it sent before the March deadline.
Pete Sanuita stated
that he and Nancy Pasquini have worked out a plan for the HPA mail to
get Janet Sanuita in a timely way.
Rosalie Dupont
brought up the fact that Fran Potter and Debbie Smith will soon be
cooking their last dinner for the HPA, and shouldn’t we do something to
show our appreciation for all of their hard work? Barbara Giroux will
provide thank you cards for each, but what else could we do?
Patsy Bluemer
suggested a Restaurant gift card. Rosalie Dupont asked how much should
it be. Patsy recommended that it be $50.00 for each of them. Rosalie
asked for a show of hands and the majority agreed it should be a gift
card for $50.00 for each of them. We decided to
personally present
the thank you to them in the kitchen at the Corned Beef dinner. Also it
was unanimously voted to make them Life Time Members.
Nelson Dionne
motioned we adjourn, seconded by Angela Belisle, and all were in favor.
Meeting adjourned at 8:00p.m.
Respectfully
Submitted,
Doris Rivard
