MINUTES – HAMPTON PONDS  ASSOCIATION

MONDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Rosalie Dupont, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.  A moment of silence followed for those active men and women, veterans and all who have died in service to our country.  There were 15 in attendance.

Barbara Giroux, Secretary, read the Minutes of the September meeting.  Paul Bluemer made a motion to accept as read, seconded by Nancy Pasquini.

Janet Sanuita, Treasurer, distributed the Hampton Ponds Budget – September 2007 report for everyone’s review.  Total income was $1,611.52, Expenses: $4,732.27 (this expense figure included the payment for the boat/motor/trailer to Lambert’s for our raffle) and cash in all accounts: $16,010.97.  Profit from the pancake breakfast was $124.48 and from the tag sale, profit was $785.04.  The total brought in from the clambake was $502.00, but no expense numbers were available.  Pete Sanuita made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s report, seconded by Ray Dionne.

President Rosalie Dupont started off the meeting saying we NEED to work as a TEAM to accomplish our goals and not work AGAINST each other!  Kim Goulette expressed concern about the split in the group from the “newbees” and “oldbees” and that the new people do have a great passion and are working hard and want to be a Team.  A lengthy discussion followed…..also brought up was the fact that the Town of Southampton doesn’t contribute as the City of Westfield does. It was duly NOTED to everyone that the small group of people from Southampton certainly doesn’t rule the Town, and Southampton has been approached many times but without success to obtain monies, etc.  Don Leger stated that Proposition 2-1/2 did not pass in the Town of Southampton, and this was one way that monies could have been obtained.  Ray Dionne said he is working with our Mayor of Westfield to obtain monies for us.  It was suggested that Ray could approach the Town of Southampton to try for monies as well.  Clean Lakes was again brought up and noted that this is NOT a new part of our organization; Nancy Pasquini had been the sole person working on this project for years and has done a GREAT JOB – Now we have a TEAM onboard to help with fundraisers, etc.  Nancy said that it actually started about 10 years ago when she started having meetings with the City of Westfield regarding Bill Epstein’s properties.

Pete Sanuita suggested that our meetings need to be conducted in a more orderly fashion, and not everyone talking at once.  President Rosalie will use the gavel more at our meetings, and WE must all remember to put up our hands before speaking to be recognized by our President.

Jim Haley attended our meeting to give us information about the Marching Band that has participated for many years in our 4th of July Parade, and the background of why we pay them $300.00.  Paul Bluemer stated that in the past, the Parade Book proceeds were used to pay for the Band, but since we do not publish anymore, it now comes out of

the General Fund.   The band has a lot of history with our HPA, they are also civil war re-enactors, plays the tap as well, and contributes a lot to our Parade. Barb Giroux made a motion to continue to pay the $300.00 to this band and have them participate in our future parades, seconded by Pete Sanuita.

Jim Haley also gave a GREAT presentation on a quick History of the HPA.  A lot of information he presented was not known to us, and we thanked him for taking the time to share this information with all of us.  Barb Giroux also took a copy for the Minute Book if anyone would like to read it more thoroughly.

The Membership Drive and “Personal Ask” to Waterfront Owners were tabled until January.

Copies of the mission statement, charter and by-laws were handed out for everyone’s review and tabled until next meeting to discuss.

The “Application for Common Victualler” was discussed in detail.  Nancy Pasquini and Rosalie Dupont will work on this to determine if we are required to submit this.  The form notes that a Food Service Permit is supposed to be attached.

Per Janet Sanuita, no news as yet on the IRS Penalty assessed to us in the amount of  $1,400.00.

Nancy Pasquini talked with Gary Massoti about donating a boat to Jericho.  She stated he has a 14’ fiberglass that he could donate.  Nancy will discuss this boat versus an aluminum one, and she will get in touch with Lou after Gary decides the boat that will be donated.

Janet Sanuita is handling the quotes for our liability and property insurance and will update us when quotes are received.

Upcoming events…..Tag Sale weekend of October 5th, Spaghetti dinner October 6th, Walk-A-Thon November 3rd, and Turkey Dinner November 3rd.

Barbara Giroux made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:23 p.m., seconded by Kim Goulette.

Respectfully submitted,

Barbara Giroux, Secretary
