There were 19 in attendance:
The meeting was called to order by Rosalie Dupont,
president at 7:05 p.m., with the pledge of allegiance, followed by a moment
of silence for those active service men and women, veterans and all who have
died in service for our country.
Past president Paul Bluemer asked if the new officers
and board members present had taken their oath of office. They had not, so
Paul then had them recite the oath of office with him.
Barbara Giroux, secretary and Joe Giroux were unable to
attend the meeting, so Doris Rivard read the Minutes of the March meeting.
Motion was made to accept and seconded, all were in agreement.
Janet Sanuita, Treasurer reported with an up to date
budget report and distributed copies. Cash Assets Total $11,871.44. Janet
also mentioned that we had received 25 family membership dues and 18
individual membership dues plus donations that were paid. This could be
seen on the report she provided. The treasurer’s report was accepted as
is.
Jeanie Dionne asked if the membership wanted her to
move forward on arranging for the trophies for the fourth of July parade and
boat parade. Everyone thanked her for volunteering to do it again this year
and complimented the job she has been doing. She also stated that Nancy
Valego would again be helping her judge the parade this year.
Old Business
Mike Potenza stated that he received the documents he
needed from Janet Sanuita and Nancy Pasquini to put HPA in for potential
donations from Waste Management Corp.
Mike Potenza also stated that after hearing what we
presently pay for dumpster service, we would probably be best to stay with
our present service provider. He did not think Waste Management could beat
the price we were presently paying.
Nancy Pasquini confirmed that State forms, PC-3 and
99EZ have been filed with the City of Westfield for HPA to maintain non
taxable entity.
Concern that there are photos on the alternate website
called The Ponds. We would like to eliminate this duplicate website. Don
Leger will pursue that.
Kim Goulette, Vice president, provided draft copies of
our upcoming newsletter for reviewing. Looking for more input, Rosalie
Dupont said she would provide “Tidbits”. Kim hopes to have it completed by
the end of the month.
In Nancy Valego’s absence Janet Sanuita states that to
produce concerts this summer may be price inhibitive. One band for two
hours would cost $600.00.
Mike Potenza stated that he could not find any
additional information on how to have an Ice Out Derby.
Kim Goulette reported that we were not chosen to
receive grant money from Caldwell Banker this year, but HPA is still on the
list and we will be eligible again in about six months.
Rosalie Dupont asked Pete Sanuita how the fund raising
calendar was coming along. Nancy Pasquini mentioned that Pete is trying to
grow a pony tail to cover himself before he has to pose for the calendar.
Janet Sanuita mentioned that we still could have a Girl
Scout car wash to raise funds when the weather warms up. Not much notice
will be needed.
New Business
Don Leger suggested that we include our new website on
our newsletter and letterhead. Everyone agreed this would be wise.
Rosalie Dupont read a letter HPA received from a past
president, Bruce Martin representing his church, the Word of Grace Church,
requesting the possible lease of property between our buildings. Tony
Borgatti and Pete Sanuita said they spoke to Bruce Martin and mentioned the
loss of trees and what materials might be used to accommodate the property
being used for additional church parking. After much discussion, which only
led to more unanswered question, we concluded that because this will have
such long term impact we need to review our plot plan, possible liability,
and the potential loss of trees vs. the possible financial gain. While on
this subject, Nancy Pasquini mentioned that the veterans have volunteered to
help us clear a portion of our property to enlarge our parking area, and may
even construct a Pavilion if this is a project we wish to pursue. The
outcome regarding the land lease is that we will table it until we have more
information to make a more informed decision.
Tony Borgatti asked if our insurance would cover board
members if the HPA were ever sued. Janet Sanuita, Treasurer said that our
policy covers officers and the property, but not the Board of Directors.
Hearing he was not protected, Tony promptly said he was resigning
immediately. Don Leger, alternate board member also resigned along with
Nelson Ray Dionne. Janet Sanuita stated she had gotten some quotes for the
cost of insuring the Board of Directors:
$500,000 coverage would cost $595.00, $1,000,000
coverage $705.00, and $2,000,000 coverage would cost $1,244.00. Paul
Bluemer said maybe we should get some more quotes, but then he thought we
should get the $2,000,000 coverage would probably best suit our
organization. We all agreed. The motion was passed to purchase the
$2,000,000 coverage. Janet Sanuita will purchase the policy immediately.
Then Tony Borgatti stated that because we are getting the coverage he would
not resign after all and the same for Don Leger and Nelson Ray Dionne.
At 8:00 Doris Rivard made a motion to adjourn the
meeting, seconded by Janet Sanuita, all agreed.
